Why do brides spend so much on one-wear-only wedding dresses, whereas grooms often rent cheap tuxedos, even though grooms could wear the same tuxedos on many other occation and brides will probably never wear their dresses again?

If the groom has any REAL class he will buy a nice suit that he can use again instead of renting some cheap tux...just my opinion.

i think bride to be really prepare this occasion as the highlight of their lives. they wanted it to be the most memorable day in their lifetime. especially if this is their first time getting married and thinking they want to be the perfect queen for that day. then, even its the most expensive wedding dress there is, they keep it as a souvenir, a memento of their happy young life, starting together.



some bride expect their groom to be well prepared as well, not just like a rental tuxedo that they can return, some bride, keep the two clothing to preserve for their children and grandchildren to see (if the marriage will last that long).



those clothing can be wear again if their size were still the same after several long years, think about the silver & golden wedding anniversary, they do still tie the knot accordingly. what would be the best way if you can still wear the same one? if not, alteration is the other option.



plus if they pay that much, they will be the center of attention comparing price from their other married friends...

The simple answer is "tradition." People do not, by and large, go into weddings thinking "What's the best way to do this?" They think "I want to do this the way it's always been done." For the average couple, that means buying a dress and renting a tuxedo. Ironically, renting a tuxedo is a relatively new concept--both my grandfathers simply wore their best suits. Contrary to popular belief, tuxedos are evening formal wear, not to be worn before six o'clock or sundown, whichever comes first. The majority of weddings take place in the day, so tuxedos are inappropriate. Sadly, the average man today rarely has occasion to wear anything better than a suit. Renting itself can seem like an extravagance.

I think mostly because they think it is expected of them and indeed much with men and golf clubs or cars or anything like that it becomes a bit of a status symbol. "oh I had a $5000 dress for my wedding..." that makes them seem more special... the more they were allowed to spend on the dress... and the more the guy spent on the engagement ring... the more he loves them I guess.... It is a little like the dowries paid by fathers to the groom. The higher the dowry the greater the status of the bride.... after all... they do need to be made feel special on the big day... and we all know money talks in this day and age...

I think the tradition was the a wedding dress would be passed down from generation to generation. Also, most brides want a one-of-a-kind dress that is fitted just for them. However, I agree that brides are taken advantage of when dresses costs thousands of dollars. That's just ridiculous. A dress shouldn't cost more than the honeymoon, or a down payment on a new home. I would worry about a bride who wanted a $10,000 dress. Seriously worry.

Brides spend a lot on their dress because they have been dreaming of it since they were 5, and most guys probably haven't given any thought to their tux until their fiance says something. That being said, not all guys rent the cheapest tux possible. Tuxes can get rather expensive and a lot of the National Chains have deals where the groom gets to keep his tux with several other tux rentals. My fiance wants to buy his tux so he can have a nice tux, but my dress is definitely not something I can wear again. However I love it and he wants me to spend whatever I have to for the perfect dress.

It doesn't make much sense does it? I think weddings should be reasonable and tasteful but the big money should be banked for 10 years. At that point either have the greatest party for an anniversary or pay for a divorce.
