Question:
overweight, overconsuming baby boomers messed up the environment, health care, and the economy. Agree?

They were fed a meat and milk-based diet from birth, and refuse to give up their horrible eating habits. I've been in the restaurant business for 11 years and with the amount of meat and cholesterol they pump into their bodies, there's no surprise that many of them are dealing with hypertension, diabetes, liver/kidney disorders, and obesity.

The environment was not a concern until recently, but they refuse to give up what they are used to. Buy and throw away has been the norm. Convenience will always prevail.

And the economy? How many boomers are REALLY ready for retirement? So many are loosing their homes right now that I bet their 401(k) accounts are the last thing on their minds.

Now, before I get 3 dozen responses with "I am a boomer and I am not like that". I will tell you that I KNOW they aren't ALL like that. Many are responsible and conscious of their health and the health of the planet they are leaving to their children. Many pinched pennies and won't drain the taxpayers because of irresponsible planning. I am just generalizing here.

Marian Salzman wrote an article that claims that baby boomers are the greediest generation in US history. I can't say I disagree with her.

I disagree. I'm not a boomer either - am Gen X. I think the weight problem lies more with humans that are 0-30 years old right now. Though there's been many studies on foods and nutrition, obesity was not as such an epidemic until this generation. Fast food, video games, non-social activities all add up. Food was used as rewards to raise these people too. Also, with this sense of "i'm special" and "I deserve this because I'm special" mentality, it is driving people to buy things they can not afford and now it is catching up with them which is throwing our economy in the toilet.

Screwing up the environment has been going on for a long time. The mostly barren landscape east of Israel was once lush grassland. Overgrazing by sheep and goats destroyed it, and overgrazing has done this in many parts of the world, including to much of Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas.

I don't believe that baby boomers are the greediest generation in history. Written history is some 6,000 years old, which is a long time in terms of generations. The knights of Europe were criminally greedy, as was the Catholic Church. Here in our own country you might say greed is a national trait. How many million square miles did we steal or cheat from Native Americans?

You're young yet. As for eating goes, this is called gluttony rather than greed. But even that has many mitigating factors: some people eat because they are depressed, some traumatized women eat a lot to make themselves unattractive to men, some have hypo-thyroidism, and for others obesity has genetic factors.

I would lay an equal amount of blame upon the fast food industry.

Marian Salzman is full of it. The relative level of greed has never changed from one generation to the next.

What has ruined our economy is not greed. Greed has never caused any economic problem. What caused our problems is the love that the Baby Boomers have for government.

likely to three quantity. that's likely exacerbated by the very incontrovertible fact that many infant boomers are the attending physicians besides. they're achieving retirement age and there is not a huge sufficient pool of in addition qualified people to replace them. i imagine it is the most important part of the wellbeing care service shortage/medical value gouging occurring. they only want to coach extra medical doctors. We ought to have countless the international's maximum perfect experienced medical doctors yet, sturdy success getting to work out one. you'll see the toddler 2 years out of med college rather maximum in all likelihood. Attending physicians are in effortless words round for the mandatory 30 2d verbal change to work out if the intern did not cut back to rubble. i'm in gen x and that i will say with a tremendous degree of fact that the most knowlegable medical doctors are literally not from my technology. not yet a minimum of.
